Process a return at the counter
Take a return back against the original sale, so stock and the refund both land correctly.
Before you start
- The original sale, completed through POS
Steps
Find the original sale
In POS › Return, look up the original transaction — by receipt, customer, or date — rather than starting a blank return with no link to what was actually sold.
Select what's coming back
Choose the specific items and quantities being returned. A partial return is normal — the rest of the original sale stays untouched.
Confirm the condition
Mark whether the returned item goes back into sellable stock or needs to be written off. This decision is what determines whether Inventory › Stock actually goes back up.
Settle the refund
Refund to the original payment method or issue store credit. Either way, it posts against the original sale in Finance, so the books show a return against real revenue — not a mystery negative entry.
What you end up with
A return that's traceable to the sale it came from, with stock and cash both landing where they actually belong.
